The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum is one of the coolest things to do in Houston. It is incredible that a place with such unique history chose Houston as it’s home. Buffalo Soldiers were comprised of former slaves, freemen, and black Civil War soldiers and were the first African Americans to serve during peace time. Go here. You will learn so much. From the Spanish American War, both World Wars, The Philippine Insurrection, and much more the Buffalo Soldiers served the United States with honor and distinction at a time where they were not treated with either.
At least 18 Medals of Honorwere presented to Buffalo Soldiers during the Western Campaigns and 23 African Americans received it during the Civil War.
